Abstract

The phenomenon of low work effectiveness among young workers has become an important issue in human resource management, particularly among Generation Z, who are newly entering the workforce. This issue is often associated with suboptimal communication competence in delivering, organizing, and managing work-related information effectively. This study aims to analyze the effect of communication competence on the work effectiveness of Generation Z in Jayapura City. This research employs a quantitative approach with an explanatory design. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 101 Generation Z respondents working in various sectors, such as private companies, government institutions, and micro, small, and medium enterprises. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (PLS). The results show that communication competence plays an important role in enhancing work effectiveness, as reflected in individuals’ ability to deliver messages clearly, in a structured manner, and to support productive workplace interactions. These findings indicate that communication is a key competence in supporting individual performance in the workplace. The novelty of this study lies in examining the direct relationship between communication competence and work effectiveness in the context of Generation Z in Papua. The results demonstrate that communication competence has a significant and strong effect in explaining variations in work effectiveness, thereby reinforcing the role of communication as a core competence in human resource development.
